Damaged Fruit Trees, possible infestation - Can we save them?

We just moved a new project house and along with it came the severely neglected project yard.

The trees and shrubs in the backyard apparently sat in sewage for a long time a summer or so ago, then they were pretty much not irrigated, not pruned at all, not fed, and when we moved in there were large piles of dead debris, dead wood, and other smaller dead trees underneath them.

There is a plum tree and apricot tree that we are worried about, specifically the plum tree. We hacked the crap out of both yesterday but there is clearly evidence of infestation (not sure if still present).

Is there anything else we can do to save these trees and can anyone identify the infestation? This is our first house and first yard and we'd really like to save these old trees if possible. We started irrigating them as soon as we moved in (2.5 wks ago). Have not yet fertilized but did get all the dead stuff out from underneath them.
