Bits of Glory

| Not sure where to post this...I was poking around in the gardens gallery forum. Found a few relevant items but the posts are all jumbled.
Anyhow...I noticed many people active in this forum have posted what I'll call "bits of glory" from their landscape.
So..is anyone willing to post pictures of their landscape (pics they have already taken)? I know its an odd time put yet its the best time...many folks are winter depressed, others are doing their spring planning.
Personally I don't care if its a panoramic of your entire yard of if its a close up of one of your trees.
Am I off my rocker or can we can't something rolling here? There have been several people talking about labeling their plants in their yards and conducting tours...you have to have some spectacular photos of your garden to share! |

These trees are small and probably not worthy compared to others but... Pictures include baldcypress (was topped accidentally, not by me.) dawnredwood, giant sequoia, coast redwood, tulip tree. (sorry if these pictures are too large, I am new to this! : )

| See...even little potted trees can be fun. I only have a couple work in progress photos from late 08 and early 09. I plan on taking pics of all the individual plants and "big picture" pics as well. My 3 year project will be completed this spring. Here are a couple pics...although the plantings have changed quite a bit to the present...you'll notice alot of "design" mistakes.

| When planting in turf it's often a good idea to remove a section of lawn, make a small bed for the young tree to grow in - until it is much larger, can handle having grass come up to or near the trunk. Be sure the roots are not circling or kinked when planting out large-growing trees like these in particular in their final positions. Vigorous plants very soon reach the walls of small containers, to keep up with root growth of plants in pots you need to move them on before this happens. Roots coming out of drain holes indicates this optimal potting on window has been passed. |

| I'd be on fire if my neighbors dog was taking leaks and leaving brown spots that close to my yard! Looks like you have some nice things inside the fence there. |

| Thanks bboy! Good to know. J |

| Actually, my neighbor used weedkiller (looks like Roundup??) creating brown spots all year long. It's depressing that my yard won't look like that for another 3 months. Most trees start leafing out mid-March. Lawn won't really start growing rapidly until mid-April and be completely green by May or so. it's just completely brown right now. The only exciting thing going on right now is watching my 'Nanjing Beauty', a montezuma-bald hybrid cypress turn "winter" color right now. Very boring time during the winter... |

| Keep em coming! Ken, in the first pic I see a small tree near the yellowish juniper...as I scroll down to 2007 the tree is gone...what happened? Also are you happy with your Tri-color beech? Would you recommend it? |

Sorry, I just had to. |

| Too funny, bushhog! Ken, having noticed that there is a chair next to yours, I'm thinking we should all take turns sharing that amazing view---if your DW doesn't mind! Maybe if we agree not to stay for dinner...isn't that one of the rules??? Here's one of our backyard last month and one from NZ. |

| hey whaas ... nice catch .... when i first started 10 years ago .... i planted all my treasures real close to the chair ... lo and behold.. the darn things started growing like the weeds they are/were ... BLOCKING MY VIEW ACROSS THE REST OF THE YARD ... what a nimrod ... lol ... the missing plant is the liquidamber i keep showing you pix of .... when it got to about 8 to 10 feet.. i decided i had to move it ... being shallow rooted.. and with my sand.. i bare rooted it in october.... digging a 6 to 8 foot circle around the trunk.. and ripped it from mother earth ... and moved it 2 acres to the north ... about 4 hours of hard labor .... the darn thing made it through winter.. and started budding out.. when it got hit by a late hard z5 frost .. which killed all the buds .... and then it died .... later that fall.. i replaced it for $17 bucks for a one gal from girards [where i got the original] ... in hindsight ... i dont understand why 4 hours of my backbreaking labor was worth $17 ... rotflmbo .... anyway ... here are the pix of it in its heyday ... learn from my mistakes ... ken
