I did a quick Google search today, while answering a question in another forum, that turned up an interesting document. If anyone is really interested in seeds and has some extra time, I believe the article, linked below, has a wealth of info. I have only skimmed through some of it so far, but hope to have time to read it more thoroughly soon. What I did read was loaded with helpful information. While the document was written about forest seeds, much of the information can be extrapolated to seeds in general.
