Whats wrong with tree?

Hello,
I just returned to SE Alabama after living overseas for a few years and discovered two of my trees have something wrong with the bark. It looks like the bark is growing deformed, sometimes looking like fins or splitting away.
Does anyone know what's wrong?
Can I treat this?
I want to save the trees if I can.

I don't know what kind of tree that is but some species has got cork ridges along their branches just like in your pic. Totally normal for at least some kind of trees.

Looks like normal growth on Liquidambar styraciflua
or Sweetgum.

Totally normal. I'm assuming that's a Sweetgum.

That's also the trunk of a normal sweetgum.
