Avocado Tree Winter survival

Hello,

I started an avocado pit about a year and a half ago, and it has grown to about 18" and has sprouted its first branch. I am wondering if it can be planted outside and become a permanent fixture in the yard. I know it probably will never produce fruit, but i would still like it to be an outside tree, so to speak. I live in Nebraska so the weather is going to present some challenges.

Avocado trees are rated hardy to grow zone 10 or 9b. And you're in 4 or 5.
