European Cypress Tree dying?

Hello, I purchased a European Cypress Tree (sorry don't know the official name of it) from proflowers.com in December hoping to have a year-round mini Christmas tree. While it started off all moist and dark green, now it's fading, drying up, and falling apart. It first started with two branches. I suspect it might be a watering problem (underwatering) so I made sure when I watered it last time to make sure it got plenty. The soil must have been really dry as it just kept soaking it up. That only seemed to make worse! Now almost all of the branches seem to be drying up, and there's some browning as well. I don't know what else to do! I'm using bottled water to water it so it doesn't get any more fluoride than it has to.

It also gets plenty of light. Well, as much light as it can get being the middle of winter in Michigan. When the sun does decide to shine it will get a little direct light. I live in an apartment so it'll only get a few hours of direct sunlight a day. I could move it to another place so it won't get direct sunlight. It's away from the heater, and the window it's by has been covered in plastic for the winter, so there's no cold drafts coming in.

I'm hoping it can be salvaged. It's a nice tree and I'd like to keep it around. I managed to bring a bonsai tree of mine back from near death, so I'm not giving up on this yet! My bonsai had a case of root rot so after I hacked the bad parts off it started growing like a weed, sprouting new branches and leaves.

Chamaecyparis lawsoniana 'Ellwoodii' or similar. Not a house plant. Once a conifer goes brown and dry it is dead.

a year-round mini Christmas tree.

==>> do i interpret this.. that you are trying to grow a forest tree IN THE HOUSE??

these OUTDOORS trees are usually forced into shape.. for quick sale during the holidays.. and then.. quickly die ...

they are a full sun plant .. minimum 8 hours per day .. thru windows.. it is not getting proper sunlight..

they need ambient humidity.. and many of our houses in winter are not good for trees in that regard ...

also.. trees like very high drainage .... a sip of water and near full drainage.. and these are probably potted like houseplants.. and the media usually holds too much water ...

and to top it all off.. it will die in MI outside ... in winter ...

make your life simple.. get rid of it ... just like i did with the one my MIL gave me ... [ i mean really woman.. i have 500 conifers outside.. i didnt need one in the house .. lol ... though i cherish that she thought i would enjoy it.. dont get me wrong ... its like buying a fish salesman.. a fish for xmas ... lol .. ]

odds are low my friend.. see if you can save it.. but dont bet the farm on it.. and dont get too wrapped up in it.. if you fail ....

Tabletop Christmas trees fall into the category of greenhouse grown florist pot crops such as easter lilies, kalanchoes and poinsettias, intended to be enjoyed for a time and then tossed, like cut flowers. Unlike the Thanksgiving cactus (Schlumbergera), many, if not most of these products do not make enduring and willing house plants - able to continue growing and flowering as well as they did in the production facility.
