Transplanting a Fig tree?

Posted by Coreanut none (My Page) on

Hi, i live in Vic, and have recently discovered a Fig tree has popped up in the backyard, since the fires came through, it is unfornately growing right against my fence and is about 70cm high at current, i was going to get rid of it but everyone thinks i should keep it, i understand figs can be grown in containers and am now considering this, when is the best time to dig her up? and how do i go about doing it... i mean in terms of figuring out how wide and deep to dig and is there a special type of potting mix/soil i should use, also once in a container how often should i re-pot it?
Thanks in advance

Best time to dig it up will probably be after it goes dormant for the winter. Just wait and watch for the last of the leaves to fall off, wait a couple weeks longer, then you should be safe to dig it up.
