Are stewartia seed propagated?

Is it spring yet?
I have a stewartia that seems to have an identity crisis. When it was younger it seemed one side grew with just a little bit more vigor and leafed out a day or two earlier. Blooms have always looked the same on both sides, but now that it's bark is starting to peel it looks even more two sided.
I always figured cuttings were a quicker way to propagate these things, but mine really looks like a pair of seedlings that have grown together.

I think it's all one tree. Bark is that of Stewartia pseudocamellia.

mature bark is age related..

and the width of the trunks indicates that each is at least a year younger than the bigger ones ...

the odds of two plants fusing together.. are low to nil..

i would bet my nickle.. the others will follow suit in a year or two ....

Just thought I'd post a picture again of the tree leafing out. It's still going through its Dr Jekyll/ Mr Hyde thing with the right side leafing out while the left side lags a few days behind.
