If I won the lottery I would get one of these tree size greenhouses. |

| That is too good. Wonder if I can help the Rams move out of town quicker so we can plant live oak in the dome! |

| Perhaps, there are many easier solutions, such as here |

| I would put Quercus Virginiana in it, with spanish moss in the branches. Snasxs, I never saw groundcover rhodies before. I'm not sure why you would need them in a dome unless they need to be colder vs warmer, being zone 4, and you are pretty warm 7-8. The rhodie I want is wild rhodedendron maximum. Those sold are never pure wild species. I have quercus virginiana outside but don't have much hope of success. I have 1 quercus Fusiformis doing well though. Even if it wasn't for wanting a certain tree to survive your winter, that would help with the winter doldrums, having a tree and some potted shade lovers. |

I guess we can assume that the Allied bombing of Dresden didn't reach as far as Pillnitz. There was a similar structure erected over palms on the Mainau island, this is on Germany's Lake Constance AKA Bodensee. The structure was erected every Fall and taken down every Spring. After Count Bernadotte died they built a permanent conservatory over the palms. |

I want one too! - But attached to the house, about 20x30 feet with a very high ceiling and beams so I could have tropical flowering vines hanging from them. I would want tropical fruit trees, maybe a few butterflies and finches but not monkeys unless they were very small. Hmmm maybe there'd be room for a tree house for my grandkids if I made it a little bigger and it would need a waterfall of some sort. I checked out the book below from the library awhile back and it has some great photos. It would make anyone want a conservatory. I like the one it pictures on the front. |

| Christy, I have that book, and it does make you want one. I found it on Amazon. I have bought a sunroom/greenhouse after seeing the book, but it's only 8 ft tall and 7x9. The idea of the waterfalls and other stuff makes me feel like going to Phipps conservatory in Pittsburgh. I wish they would try a live oak there, but it probably needs a small amount of cold (?) They would need to make a separate wing for something that big anyway. I wanted to have my sunroom attached to the house and accessable from inside but that would involve going through brick to make a window a door, and I would need to get a better quality sunroom. I have the Rion lean-to greenhouse from Home depot online store. Good for overwintering small marginally hardy plants, and seed starting, but no tropical paradise. |

| "I would put Quercus Virginiana in it, with spanish moss in the branches." You're gonna need a bigger greenhouse. :) |

| Yeah I know, the glasshouse complex at Phipps conservatory wouldn't even be big enough for a mature Southern live oak. I won't be winning the lottery most likely, I play very sporadically. I am going to try to keep a Southern live oak alive outside in a protected area, I have 2 out there and 1 of them is still mostly green leaved (yay) The Texas live oak is doing great with all it's leaves and no protection, it's a tough tree, much hardier than the southern live oak. |
