Is this Oak tree dead?

This oak tree looks without life, and its leaves look so dried out. However, I am not sure if it is because this is a deciduous oak tree with the leaves just hanging there. Now, in GA, most trees should start to have their new leaves. Is this tree dead?

Plenty of them still look like this at my house. I suspect this is a Post oak. Keep waiting.

top pic.. do you not see the green under the bark ... just about dead center of the pic ...

oaks are one of the last to come to life..

you will know the buds are swelling.. when the leaves mysteriously fall off.. usually in a decent wind ...

give it two weeks .. and PLEASE LET US KNOW ...

ps: why do you suspect such.. did you move it????

Many small Oak trees retain their leaves through winter.
I have a few small Oaks in my garden, most of which are planted by the squirrels and one of them still has leaves, I don't know if it is a Quercus robur or a hybrid. I guess your Oak is OK.

take a spray bottle with water.. and on young ones with immature bark ....

spray the trunk.. and if you see green ... i bet it is alive.. [its also called the spit/lick test]

spray a known dead one... and you will see no green

also.. try the scratch test for green ...

and.. take off a leaf.. and see if there is a viable bud under it.. or not ...

i dont understand the guessing.. when there are so many things you can do.. to find out [other than asking us]

Its probably fine. Lots of young oaks retain their leaves all winter. Wait til June.

there are some varieties of oaks that are deciduous and some are evergreen.

there's several large leafed oak trees in my neighborhood, and even after their leaves turn brown they stay on the tree. the majority of our oaks have the smaller oval shaped leaves which stays green year round. i believe they're live oaks.
