Centurion Crabapple

A number of these trees were planted in sidewalks 4 years ago after Main St. reconstruction. Planted as ornamentals only I suppose, but in addition to fantastic bloom they produce a heavy apple crop which has been a boon to overwintering birds and uncommon migrants as well. (See photo) The downtown trees are a bit stunted, but others are growing faster.Not sure how big tree would get in better environment-- We need something to fill in where we lost a 44-foot spruce last year, need for screening compost operation & neighbors' house,as well as beauty & bird-food.
Does anyone know how large a tree (or 2, or 3) we should get,considering 5 to 10 yeartime frame?

no pic .. always curious about others gardens

first 4 at the link ... i would call 10 to 15 years old ... middle two closer to 10 ... first and 4th... older ...

This is an illustration of sidewalk Centurion's bird attraction (one uncommon Pine Grosbeak, +Robins that don't migrate anymore) which along with spectacular bloom is why I'd like to plant some.Leery of disease; largish crab (no ID) Ive had for 30 years gets only 1 good bloom year in 3.Very sparse fruiting also.

Thanks Ken, photos a help. Really tempted to get Centurion, but neighbors' house just sold and we're worried about new owners' reaction to now exposed compost bin-- neat, but unattractive.(Photo is of rebuilt bin, fallen tree smashed original). Crabtree not much of a screen. Departed spruce's skirts concealed most everything, from both sides.Chainlink fence theirs, we're hoping they'll replace with new one or hedge--will wait & see, but need to get something in this Spring!
