| I have a semi-mature Fuerte avocado tree in the front yard here in LA, maybe 8 years old. For the last few years I get a TON of flowers but no fruit.
The tree was originally purchased from Home Depot and it mentions that the tree should bear fruit in the early fall but it never has. After further inspection it looks like the graft has been cut off of the tree at one point so this would explain why the tree is not doing anything. It's in limbo. I asked the garden store about re-grafting and they told me "not to bother since it's alot of work and the root stock of those trees don't make good fruit without a solid graft anyways." They suggested cutting the tree down and dropping in a new one. I spoke with my neighbor about this and he said that all I needed to do to pollinate the tree was take a cutting off of another local tree and shake off some of the pollen a few times to try to kick start the pollination process. Sounds absurd but it might work. Will this actually work or is it time to ditch the tree? |

I think you could paraphrase what they told you as, "We are clueless, but would you like to spend more money?" "I spoke with my neighbor about this and he said ..." Sounds absurd but it might work. Oh, you already said that. |
