root bag and "root trapping" questions

A few of you here have used in-ground root bags for growing trees, as well as the "root trapping" products from Rootmaker. Also Smart Pots.

I may experiment with several methods as well as straight in the ground.

What I wonder is, have any of you run into situations where a particular species with "fleshier" or thicker roots circled inside the bag/smart pot/roottrapper because the roots were too big to "fit" into the holes or become "trapped" by the fabric? I can see how they should work for most plants, but some trees (Aesculus, Liriodendron, Magnolia grandiflora in particular) produce very thick, fleshy roots in comparison.
