Tree planting question.....

We just cut down all of our Arborvitae's. They lined the entire back yard and the past few years of harsh winters ruined many of them, plus they were fairly large andhad been here for some time before we moved in 9 years ago. So we removed them all as of 2 days ago. I just ordered 25 Thuja Green Giants that will be coming in the beginning of April. My question is, we cut down the Arborvitaes and left the stumps, can I plant the new Thuja's several feet in front of them without harm? Any help would be appreciated. Thank so much.

RE: Tree planting question.....

You can do that. There will be many roots to dig through as you plant the new ones, there will be many roots being decomposed by organisms that use nitrogen in the process, which you can easily make up for with small amounts of nitrogen fertilizer, and you will have stumps to look at, or for your neighbors to look at, for some time. But other than that, no big deal. Where trees come from-forests-new trees are growing next to the stumps of old, now gone ones all the time.
