Will it hurt if I put down Halts Turf Builder Crabgrass killer around trees I just planted this past weekend (I will be planting more this weekend). Thanks!

PM, do you have the new trees mulched? I don't think pre-emergent herbicides, which is what you are dealing with, have much effect over the top of bark or woodchip mulch. On the other hand, I would advise being very careful in your application. If you can, why not leave a strip around the trees untreated? Crabgrass isn't that big of a deal. Plus, you can always get to it later, after the trees are up and running. +oM

You're too late for the pre-emergent. If you're looking to fertilize the grass then you're set.

Really too late? I always thought it should be applied around the time the forsythias bloom (which was this week).

Yes, you can still apply. Given the extra rapid warmup, you may have missed some seeds, but once crabgrass gets started, there are multiple generations most years. Or more accurately, multiple cycles of seed production. so you'll still be doing some good. True story: I once hand weeded the crab grass out of my yard. I actually let it get nice and full grown-more of a handle that way- and went out after a soaking rain and just started pulling. It comes out real nice! +oM
