4' diameter on a Sassafras.... that's one impressive Sassafras. Seen allot about 12" or so in diameter, but nothing like this size. Wonder what it looks like in fall?

Sassafras is definitely one of trees that could be a very nice landscape addition, but has the reputation of poor transplanting, along with White Oak, Scarlet Oak etc. However over the last couple years I've seen all these beginning to show up at nurseries as b&b trees (I bought and planted one of the Scarlet Oaks that has done very well so far), so apparently the transplanting problems are being resolved. Probable through repeated root pruning during production, as I see this more and more listed with growers that list these trees. I even saw b&b Sassafras this past weekend for the first time. Hope to see more of them planted.

I love the look on Kim's right after they measure it :)

Ark, I should have done my own BnB last fall on a 5' sassafras but the drought defoliated it and I didn't want to move an already stressed out tree. Maybe this summer will be better and I will have the confidence to move it. I will be collecting seed for sure as a back up. I am still pretty surprised you found those Bnb locally. They have a knack for getting uncommon stuff up there, lucky you :p
