The Longwood arborists seem to be perfectionists and it's unusual to see any signs of a large specimen being damaged there. They try to avoid letting them even get to the point where it could happen. Are Cedars of Lebanon suspectible to heavy snow damage? I wonder if that could be the cause, as Longwood probably had at least a couple storms this winter with > 12" of snow, and the later ones were accompanied by heavy winds. These are the same conditions the crushed the stems of all my arborescent Ericas...wet snow and ice mix gets trapped in the foliage, and then the wind and weight snaps it. Resin if you're around, is this a problem in the very rare heavy snowfalls in the UK?
