Is fan-tex ash a Fraxinus family tree like white and green ash? I am in Emerald Ash Borer zone so all Fraxinus family trees are expected to be killed by the bug and that would "solve" your problem.

How far are the trees from your walkway? I kid you not, I had a white ash and a big one less than a foot from my driveway and SOMEHOW it did not crack the concrete...which cracks easily enough other places interestingly enough.

Yeah, its a regular fraxinus family ash tree. Up north and now here EAB is a death sentence for all the true ash. No one warranties preventative treatment for these that I know of but I have made the choice to try.

Does anyone have an EAB eta for Texas or any idea if the climate will keep it out?

I made the mistake of building a concrete walkway around both trees and gave them only a 4 feet opening in order to water them. On one of these trees, the concrete starting lifting and it cracked in the middle. My biggest concern is that since my house is about 8 feet away from both trees, I worry that the roots will start growing underneath the foundation and crack it. I think that in order not to worry each time that I see them, I will probably cut them down. Can someone please tell me if I cut the trees down and leave the roots (since the roots are underneath the concrete) will they still spread or once I cut down the tree, the roots will die like the trees? Thanks in advance.

The roots will die like the tree.

With huge trees there can be some ground settling as they decompose. I can not see yours being so large as to cause that.

A shame this bug. I miss my white ash trees.

Where are you and is the spot full sun? I wonder if a small crepe myrtle or a japanese maple woukd be a better fit.

I am located in El Paso, Texas. There is full sun over here. I have seen my trees grow bigger and provide awesome shade but I cannot afford to let them crack my foundation. I will start next week cutting them down. Thank you so much for your help.
