Crabapples in North Jersey

Last October's early snowstorm took out the only tree on our little suburban NYC lot, a Bradford Pear tree that we planted before we knew better.

After reading through a lot of threads on this forum I think I want to replace it with either a Robert Wyman or Sugar Tyme Crabapple tree. It sounds like either of these would be a good fit under the power lines, attract birds and look good year-round as an ornamental boulevard tree.

Are there any problems with growing these trees in the North Jersey suburbs of NYC? And does anyone know where I might find one? I've checked both Metropolitan Plant Exchange in Fort Lee and Fairfield Garden Center, but no luck so far.

That should have read Donald Wyman or Sugar Tyme, not Robert Wyman of course.^ I don't see any way to edit my own posts on this board.

Those are both excellent selections of crabapple - at least for the Ohio River valley growing region.

Can't help on north NJ locations - I'm really familiar with wholesale growers like Princeton Nurseries and Halka Nurseries, not so much on retail sources.

I would be surprised if there are not multiple places to buy these plants.

Yep, they're good ones. Only concern I see is whether or not there is sufficient lateral room on that boulevard for what is a rather low-crowning tree. You'd hate to have to do excessive pruning to keep the garbage trucks off of them.
