Odds on Holly survival

Wow, of all things I did not think would suffer this winter.

I have three of what was supposed to be Ilex opaca, American Holly which all look terrible now! This pic sums it up, brown crunchy foliage and check out the black spots on the branch ends.

Our winter was a hard zone 6 winter. It never broke -10F according to the weather folks. These three trees are all down near the street though so perhaps a later cold snap which hit the mini valley they are in?

The street is maybe 30 feet from two of them so I don't think its salt damage but it is a pretty major street and big government used plenty of salt this year to keep the roads serviceable for my MarkVIII once I shoveled, blew and plowed the driveway lol.

There are buds on the branches which seem live.

I don't figure there is much I can do to help them, but what do you think their chances are for survival? Do these die back like some magnolias I have been looking like or do they just dump the old foliage during bad winters?

Thanks for your time.
