I love the bark and shape of this tree but its a 70ft monster about 15 feet from the back if my house. And it shades the entire yard. Just curious what type of tree it is.

Looks like a Beech (Fagus sp.) Can't tell if it's American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) or European Beech (Fagus sylvatica). While the former is a native tree, the later is more commonly planted in built up areas because of its better tolerance of urban conditions.

I wouldn't worry about it being close to the house, other than cleaning gutters. Beech wood is tough and strong & not prone to damage.

Summer shade on your house is a good thing.

Does not look Fagus sylvatica to me, but then again i've never seen Fagus grandifolia in Belgium :-)

I am going to say American Beech, and the one behind it is another American Beech. Like beng said, don't worry about it falling on your house, it has very strong wood. If you want to garden there are alot of options for plants that like shade.
