Oak Tree Roots

How long will the roots of an oak tree continue to grow from the ground after removal of the tree? The tree was approximately 24" in at the base of the trunk and was ground after removal. (So sad I had to have it removed BUT I won't miss those roots growing everywhere!)

Thank you!

Hardly at all! Oaks are not-as far as I know-among the trees that sprout readily from the roots. They won't rot instantly though.

Oaks almost never sprout form the roots. Most likely it's acorns from last spring sprouting or seedlings that were never pulled out last year. Take a picture and post it if that may help with the identification.

I was told by an arborist they are roots?

Attached is a photo...hopefully this helps!
