Eastern Redbuds planted along driveway?

Not sure if this is right forum but I recently got some young Eastern redbuds (~3-4' high) which were propagated from cuttings which I was considering planting along our asphalt driveway.

Being a first-timer to this, I was wondering what others opinions are on this as since redbuds seems to grow and spread out differently than most taller/bushy trees planted along driveways. After some thought, we just wanted to see if experienced tree growers would think this set-up would be completely awkward/out of place.

Thank you!

I don't think Redbud will grow tall enough to arch over the driveway without a) hitting vehicles, or b) looking properly proportioned if you limb them up.

You need a taller growing species for a driveway avenue planting. They would work for a sidewalk or walkway though.

I have both Cercis canadensis and Cercis chinensis (Eastern and Chinese redbuds) planted along my driveway but most are set back 10-15' so that the crowns do not overhang the drive. The chinensis are slightly taller (all are 12-14 years in the ground) and I have had to remove some lower branches on the ones closest to the driveway but they look fine. However, I agree with smivies that if you want an 'avenue' type planting you'd do better with either a taller or narrower choice. Mine are planted in more of a 'grove'. Lovely trees, though.

And yours may still get in the way later, when much bigger.

Yes, although their branching is high enough that I think I'm ok. I planted the chinensis as one gallon whips in 1998 and lost two to Verticillium in the intervening years and have pruned lower branches away from the driveway when needed, otherwise they have generally not been in the way. The septic clean-out truck did some pruning, as well!

Ah ok. I appreciate the feedback. While I seen the 'avenue' style with taller/narrower trees, I was intending to put the redbuds a bit further out (10'-15') since our proper lines are about 25'-30' out. We do not have a sidewalk, but a long the front would not be bad (our house is sort of an semi-immediate right after a thicket of tall trees). However, the front also has a ditch that leads to the creek so it would be back away from the street some if planted there.

So many options! Thank you for the information though everyone, we have about 1.2 acres...so we have quite a few places to choose from.
