Tree from Hell

This tree, pretty as it is, produces thousands of invasive suckers that I don't want to poison for fear for killing mama, and completely resist being pulled out.

Callery pear, very frequently planted. Looks and smells like orchard pear but produces no useful fruits.

They blow apart regularly. Easy to chainsaw up and remove. Seldom seen but pretty decent purple fall color here. Nice flowers. Invasive almost anyplace.

It must have suffered some damage in some way - damage causes trees to go into survival mode and send out suckers. For example, the roots are perhaps too close to the surface and activity like mowing may have nicked them.
