| I have three new pecan trees that have sprouted in my back yard (they're like weeds around here). In the past we've always just mowed over them. This time, however, I'd like to transplant them into the front yard as they are all directly under power lines. The problem is that two of them are derectly against the fence seperating us from our neighbors and the third is right up against a corner between the back fence and our shed. How can I dig these up with them being right up against a fence/shed? |

| You'll just have to do the best you can. They will have long long tap roots, which you will have to cut at some point. Get as much tap root as you can. Better to do this now rather than wait til next winter. Due to the low probability of these surviving the transplant, I no longer try to dig up wild ones, just go and buy them from a nursery in the winter. Give the transplant plenty of water and erect an afternoon shade for it during this first summer. |
