| While re-mulching my row of Italian Cypresses, I noticed two of them had settled and are now about an inch below grade. The root flares seem to be properly exposed; it's just that the trees are kinda in a little hole. The trees have been in the ground for 3.5 years now, and look healthy otherwise. So should I risk it and dig them out and raise them above grade? Or is it best at this point to let them be?
Here are two pics of one of the trees. It may be hard to tell from the pics, but in the close-up, you can kinda see a clunk of dirt behind the trunk that's higher than where the trunk meets the ground. Thanks in advance. |

| I wouldn't dig up trees that have been in the ground that long, I don't see any real benefit. Are there any drainage issues there? It's hard to tell, but it does look like there is a little injury right at ground level. Maybe scrape a little dirt away from there, and don't mulch up against the trunk. What's the scoop with the white strap and the bamboo stake? Alex |

| Thanks, alexander. I haven't really notice any drainage issues. As I've said, the trees look very full and healthy for 3.5 years now. That's why I was asking if it's best to just leave well alone even though I know that the trees are below grade. As for the strap and stake, they're there to keep the tree from bending in the wind so they grow straight. Maybe they're not necessary or there's a better way. I'm not sure. More opinion welcomed. |

| What Alex said...and scrap the bindings ASAP. |
