little seedlings

Campanula UK Z8

Looking at the long rows of seemingly empty pots, I thought I could sniff failure on the wind. A not very freezy winter and my first optimistic attempt at growing trees from seed.....all looked very unpromising. Although the small-leaf limes, a couple of pinus and heaps of easy stuff like laburnum have been poking little green leaves up, the rest of the (numerous) seeds were nowhere to be seen - unlike the many perennials which have been germinating on a daily basis.
But then, lo, today, at last - beech, hornbeam and sequoia giganteum are tentatively testing the air (I almost missed the sequoias, they look so flimsy).....so fingers crossed for the maples, alders, liquidambers etc. I hope to plant as replacements for the ancient and neglected poplars on our small plantation.
