| Looking for a tree for our retaining wall, we live in Southern California, USDA zone 8/9 or Sunset zone 19. We have a 3ft tall retaining wall along the 2 edges of our property. We had it professionally installed, it was permitted and has appropriate footings, etc. We are looking to plant a tree in the corner of the wall. The section that we are looking at has about a 15' span from the edge of the wall that gradually inclines up to our neighbors fences in the corner. Looking for a tree as large as we can put up there without damaging the wall or that has a root system that will heave or damage the wall. I'd like evergreen but not a conifer. I've attached a picture, as you can see there is a weeping juniper that I think died when I planted it so I'm looking for a replacement for that. Thanks so much in advance! |

| ok.. i am dying to ask .. is it mrs coffield.. or mr scoffield ... enquiring minds want to know ... lol i surely know NOTHING about Southern California .. but i am thinking you want no tree or conifer that will achieve any size.. with that beautiful wall ... perhaps you ought to try the shrub forum.. of which some of them can be made to look like trees.. but remain much smaller ... at the link below.. and presuming i am guessing the right juniper.. you should see that that plant was WAY TOO BIG for that spot ... you might also try the conifer forum.. and that is what a juniper is ... but since your area is so unique.. to most of our experience.. i would suggest you find a local botanical garden.. or arboretum.. and visit.. and see what you like in your zone.. that might fit ... find latin names.. and then go to google.. and see what the potential of things are ... good luck ken
