it does not surprise me.. that it could leaf out on stored energy ...

and yet i am thinking.. you are spot on ... about failure in the heat of the summer ...

but of course.. we have no way to know what is underground ... so whether or not the loss of that one root is terminal ... who knows ...

stand it back up.. stake it properly.. and see what happens .. or if your personality dictates that it will drive you insane with worry.. get rid of it ....

I worked as a landscaper for a small city in California. We took care of plantings on the outside of several subdivisions with trees and shrubs. It was not uncommon for trees to be knocked over by careless drivers.

What we did if the tree was not broken off was to stake it up. If the tree stayed alive, great. If not it was replaced. What do you have to lose?

So should I just stake it up or do I need to put some extra dirt around it or anything like that. I'll try and get a pic in a few days.

Just staking it up with wooden tree poles is what we did. But then we had lots of them around. No other dirt should be required unless the dozer scraped it away.
