Maybe purpleleaf choke cherries can grow there. Otherwise maybe a modern, disease-resistant purpleleaf crab cultivar. With rose family trees like this it always depends on what the pest and disease situation is in a particular locale.

If BIG is the goal, I'd go with one of the purple leaved European Beeches. I'd stay away from Crimson King Norway Maple - they look more like mud than red to me.

Smaller trees - some of the Japanese maple cultivars - most are OK in Ohio.
