magnolia tree looks bad

My magnolia tree, I believe Magnolia tripetala, started to flower a couple days ago. Today the leaves and flowers that are starting are wilted and hanging and the flowers are not their usual white. My tree is from southern NJ, at least 20 years old, stands about 20 feet, and has done well except for one year when it looked like it had an insect problem. We did have a very dry spring with one very significant recent rain. We also had a possible frost last night. I have pictures and will try to post them. This tree means a lot to me and I hate to lose it.

The damage depicted in the photo certainly appears to be consistent with frost/freeze damage. If that is the case, it's absolutely nothing to worry about -- looks bad, but pretty insignificant overall in the life of the tree. It shoujld bounce right back with fresh new growth. You will, of course, lose the opened blooms and close-to-opening buds, younger buds may be deformed with brown, dead petal tips/margins, and the very tightest flower buds may be OK.

>> i dont need to look at the pix.. sounds just like mine after 5 or 6 frosts ... except mine lost ll its flowers completely.. and the new leaves are damaged ...

at worst.. and i doubt.. there is no impact to the roots.. and it will sprout from the trunk .. so have no fear of losing it totally ... and i doubt that will happen.. i am just saying.. dont worry ...
