Anyone know of a source for this tree? Wayside and Fairweather has it for 89.00- didn't want to spend quite that much. I will if I have to. They are pricey for sure but I think worth it. Most places seem to be out of them. Thanks

I got mine from Wayside about five years ago because I could not find it any place else...and I live in Sonoma! It is a very slow grower so getting it sooner rather than later is a good idea. It flowered even in its first years in the ground, however.

Mine has been slower but not very slow. Garden centers here had it for awhile. They may have all gotten it from Handy nursery in Oregon, a wholesale grower. I've seen the original plant at Sonoma Horticultural nursery, it is abnormally small and bushy for a dove tree - must have put too much energy into jumbo sized flowerheads. I have also seen them list the cultivar on their web site as 'SHN' and not as 'Sonoma'.

Yes I agree with the smaller and bushier description - it has flowered fairly copiously for a small tree and honestly looks a bit idiotic with those huge bracts and not much else! I did see it at Sonoma Hort but when I wanted to buy one they didn't have any (and I don't think that they ship to LA for the OP.) When I ordered it from Wayside, they shipped a Cornus instead! It was dormant but a Cornus stem/bud is unmistakable, even though it was tagged as the Davidia. I took a photo and emailed it to them and they did have to allow that it was not a Davidia and reshipped. The Cornus turned out to be a Kousa with pink flowers...not quite what I was looking for!

I don't think Sonoma Hort. ships anything anywhere. Last time I was there I saw some dove tree seedlings, as I remember it labeling may have implied they were sowing fruits of the 'SHN'. If they had any grafts of their tree, I did not see them. If yours came from Handy or someone else in Oregon then it went from there to Wayside and then back to you. I once encountered a rare tree I was interested in at a British nursery, where I was informed the stock had originated in Oregon.
