Possibly a weeping cherry. In any case, I vote lost cause.

that seems about right based on google images showing up. it had a few white flowers on it a few weeks ago but they only stuck around for a short time :(

Definitely lost cause! Even when perfectly healthy (if that ever happens) weeping cherries are difficult to maintain in great shape. A tree with way too many problems to possibly justify a short two weeks of bloom

Lost cause - not just because of the die back but also the horrendous job done on the pruning. Even in good health it would never weep elegantly again.

if you are asking us.. what to replace it with ... you need to provide us more info ... otherwise.. anything that fits in the hole ...

Maybe one of the weeping crabapples like 'Red Jade' could provide the bloom and form. Also has persistent bright red fruit in the fall. But, gets 10'ñ high and 15'ñ wide...
