That's our justice department at it's finest... To most people a tree is just a tree. Just like the junky who burned down The Senator. What will she get 6 months probation, too for a tree that has been standing for 3,500 years.

It's been quite a few years ago but we had a rash of tree poaching, believe it or not they were after Paulownia.
Since that time the price has plummeted and the logs are essentially worthless.

$500!! That's IT? Are you kidding me? It should be a felony stealing something that old and priceless, not some lame slap on the wrist. I agree with the prior poster; the ridiculous $500 fine is nothing, and certainly not a deterrent!

plus 6 months suspended sentence and 6 months probation, that means if he commits another felony, he goes straight to jail for 6 months, plus whatever new conviction sentence he faces.

and part of his terms for probation is that he can not possess and saws or tools for cutting down trees.

not too long ago some guys were arrested for shooting at trees in a local wooded area.
