Can I transplant my Green Giant Arborvitae's now?

I would like to transplant some Green Giant Arborvitaes to move them closer to a shared driveway. We planted them before the driveway was put in and now they are too far away. We just put them in last May 2011 and they have done well. Would it be OK to move them now?

Thanks.

Only if absolutely necessary, such as it were a case of "transplant or be destroyed". You really need to do it when dormant. The best time would be the end of winter as soon as the frost is out of the ground, but you could also do it in the autumn, probably mid/late October in your region.

how close are they now..

it would be a waste of effort.. to place this rather LARGE tree.. too close to a driveway ....

and dont forget.. you need 3 to 4 feet of grass.. at the drive.. to throw open a car door and exit the vehicle ...

IMHO ... if they are 10 to 15 feet from the drive.. that would be about perfect ... any closer.. and you will be ruining them thru pruning in just a few years ..
