New little Norway Spruce has dry needles

I recently obtained a little Norway Spruce, about 12" tall, and very healthy-looking. I planted it in mid-April in good soil, added some home-made compost, and have watered it each day (about a large watering-can full of water). It has looked great for the first few weeks, but yesterday I noticed some brown drooping needles and am worried it's not going to make it. Any ideas? I did put a slow-acting spike of tree fertilizer near it when I planted it. Thanks.

First, I'd go out and dig up the fertilizer spike. I'm sure there are always mixed reactions to fertilizing new plantings, but fertilizer only adds additional stress to the spruce's already probable transplant shock.

I think you over watered it, though without knowing your soil, no one can say for sure. Watering everyday in any soil, for a 12 inch tree, is in my opinion, overkill.
