| Hello,
We recently bought a new house that has a huge cherry tree in the front yard (or at least we think its some sort of cherry tree). It has just blossomed and has massive blossoming pink flowers that are shedding everywhere. They are even in the neighbors yard. Should we be vacuuming up these fallen blossoms or just leave them? Do they provide nutrients for the lawn? What should we do? I'm tempted to just vacuum them up. Thanks for the info. Flowers everywhere. |

| Why would you want to vacuum them? |

| Western anti-Nature cultural pterogative. We don't like any plant debris being around. One time I was admiring a public planting of a locally rare kind of Japanese cherry tree blooming along a street in a city in my region and a crew-cutted duffer came out of his little bright white square bungalow with artificial lawn to ask, eagerly, if I was there to cut them down. You see, the fallen petals made an "awful mess" each year. |

| Yes leaf blower\vacuum. Do you also leave your fallen leaves on the ground in the fall? Geez, calm down bboy. They are not disappearing, nor are they drying out. I'm worried that they may be suffocating the grass underneath. |

| Fallen flower petals are a far cry from fallen leaves, both in substance, size and quantity. And ability to "suffocate" lawn grasses. They do disappear and quite rapidly so, so no need to rush out with the anal need to remove with a noisy piece of machinery. In areas where cherry trees and cherry blossoms are featured, the fallen petals are considered like pale pink snow. And last about as long as a brief snowfall does at this time of year. |

| Yeah, I think you're overreacting rdavis... maybe they haven't dried out this second, but they will soon enough. I've never seen a case where cherry blossoms suffocated grass. |
