Wise choice to ignore the Cleveland Select Pear. Lovely in bloom at a downwind distance, and they can disintegrate without much provocation.

I enjoy my crabapples despite not knowing their varieties.

when i think of crabs.. all i think about are suckers.. sure you cant find some other white flowering tree that wont sucker??? .. i cant tell if such is already a done deal???

Harvest Gold flowers well after leaf emergence so the flower show isn't as spectacular as it otherwise could be. Still a very nice tree.

My HG has battled fireblight and some kind of canker in the 3-4 years it has been at my house. It is getting the shovel prune this fall. Over half of the 2" trunk is now dead and efforts to callus over the wound has resulted in callus death the following year.

Ken- ha, yes alas that is true. I didn't kill one. So really just one less pear in my yard, really. There were around 15 or 20 at the nursery I went to but I didn't do anything evil to them. They were by far the most plentiful tree there.

Well I went with this crabapple bc of the shape...I wanted to be on the smaller end in terms of width bc of where it is in the yard. We already have a weeping cherry, some dogwoods, a flowering almond, and a red crabapple..some flowering shrubs, too. So if it doesn't flower so great, it will be ok.
I think I'm done with trees for a while...
