Rat race

During the winter I was shocked when I saw some bush-willows chewed off at the base on my border stream edge (I've seen more chewing since). My first thought was -- beaver! That would be a disaster as they are very destructive.

Just a couple days later, snooping around the stream, I heard a huge splash in the water & saw a big animal swimming away. I caught a glimpse & saw a rat-like tail. Whew! It was a muskrat, not a beaver.

So not a disaster, but if that critter(s?) starts chewing on my planted streamside baldcypresses, then there is going to be a war.

Here is a link that might be useful: Muskrat
