Propagating russian olive

canadianplant

Hey

I have a really nice "quicksilver" russian olive. It doesnt produce fruit. Its in its 5th year of growth.

I planted it in a spot before I ade the final size of my planting beds. It is in an ok spot for its final size, but now that things have changed since I started I have better things I would like to plant there.

I am going to be planting a carmine jewel in its spot and am going to be cutting the russian olive down. I have not seen this kind for sale since I bought it. Even then there were only two. I would like to take some cuttings to make sure that if I ever wanted it again I could. Id like to try it in different places as well.

The difficulty of striking cuttings according to online is said to be "very easy - difficult". Most sites state either hard wood or semi hardwood cuttings. Not quite sure what to do besides take some hard wood from last year, semi hard in july or august, and dormant cuttings before winter.

I know most people try to get rid of this tree but I would like to eep it.
