is this japanese maple tree ill? (with pictures)

We planted this Japanese maple (fireglow) last fall. It is in full sun area, and about 4 weeks ago, the leafs started to grow yellow spots and some of these leafs are even completely burned out and dead. It started on the west side of the tree, now progressing to east side.

West Side:

East Side:

We have been watering the tree once a week since this started to happen, but it didn't seem to help.

We are so worried and please advise if you have any idea on what could be going wrong.

Thanks!

hi

you should water.. when it needs water.. which may or may not be once a week .. insert finger and water when the soil is dry ... lets not drown it at this time ...

either frost/cold damage.. a week or two ago..

or chemicals from lawn spray ...

it would be nice to see the whole tree.. to see if there is a pattern ...

to answer the title ... no.. you have leaf damage.. that does NOT mean the tree itself is sick .... its sorta like a sunburn.. which does not mean you are sick .. just superficial tissue damage ... based on those pix at this moment in time ...

and NO.. feeding it will not help ...

Looks like mine. We had temps around 33-34 the other night. I think its from the frost. I hope that's all it is.

I don't recall, there was possibly a frost. It seemed to happen overnight. However, my neighbor's Japanese maple tree is fine, so I am not quite sure whether this is due to the frost.

Many thanks for looking into this.
