At only 6' tall you are talking about shrubs. The TAMU Aggie Hort web pages might have a suggestion you would like.

I should have explained better. I have a curvy bed on the front of the house, facing west, that goes around the north side of the house. Where the beds curve out on the front of the house I had three dwarf spiral Alberta spruce trees. The drought and heat killed them last year and I am looking for something to replace them. They were the anchor or the stand out taller plant. The other shrubs and flowers are three ft. Or so tall. The north side of the bed has hydrangea and hosta and anchored with a leather leaf mahonia as th last plant. The plants on the front of the house are roses, the spruces were in the curves, surrounded by firehouse nandinas, rosey glow
barberry and different annuals. I just need something to replace the spruces that do not get to tall or big, as they are close to the house.

Hard to find but really nice- Carpinus betulus 'Columnaris Nana' - Dwarf Columnar European Hornbeam. Just planted Japanese Maple- 'Mikawa Yatsubusa', and it would fit the bill too.

you will be hard pressed to find a 'tree' .. that magically stops at 6 feet....

its all about annual growth.. and how fast it gets to.. and surpasses 6 feet ...

all height estimates are are 10 years.. and you can expect it to be double the estimate in 20 years ...
