Fast growers with a more narrow habit to about 30' or 35'.

Mine would get more of yellowish fall color with tinges of orange. I planted large plants for quick shade in crappy, rocky, clay soil. Took off quickly. I had to prune a co-dom but other than that they had decent branching but I hand picked my three specimens.

Even after I movint I checked them out as they are easy to spot due to location and size. Fall color was good but not excellent 4 out of the last 6 years. 2 years it was poor to average.

This is one of them from 3 years ago. Can't find a fall color pic off hand.

Sorry. Maybe it's just me but I think almost all North American maples are generally ugly trees in a planned landscape. (as opposed to natural areas) At least ones we can grow, I've heard the PNW vine maple is nice. Or maybe the Asian maples just make them look bad.

Maples can be plain lollipops when young. Later they develop character.

At the end of the day I'd only plant this one for fast growth, a more narrow habit and in crappy soil.

Ony asian, reds and sugars are worthy at the new home.

It's subjective, whaas. :)

Your tree looks fine to me. I have a bias due to living in a forest and viewing Red maples as short-lived, damage-prone weed trees (and so many of them in mall parking lots where they consistently suffer from the conditions).

And subjective opinions can change over the years. Sugar maples are usually nondescript lollipops when young, but the mature ones on my lot are impressive and highly valued.
