Yes, that is it. Why some people like it a lot? I am not feeling it. Could you share some insight?

1. medium sized flowering tree.
2. excellent urban tolerance
3. very drought tolerant (best with a summer rainy season)

For semi-arid tropical and sub-tropical climates, there are not a lot of options for urban trees. Since Jacaranda often flowers before it leafs out, the wow factor also promotes its use.

Your opinion of it is trumped by its overall usefulness.

Yes, practically, it is a great choice. But I still prefer Magnolia Grandifora over this.

Based on your post, I guess the two need different conditions to grow ...

Not sure what the last 2 posts are supposed to mean...there are a lot of places where southern magnolias and jacarandas can grow together, even in the US. Like Southern California, Florida, etc.
This wasn't a very hard one: it's probably one of the most recognizable subtropical trees around the world.

Thank you very much for your insight. smivies is stretched to cover sub-tropical trees from Toronto. His answers are, however, quite accurate.

This is not a question for ID thread. I realize how my mindset has been influenced by popular views. Both Mimosa and Royal Empress tress are deeply resented by some in the US. Over a long time, I unwittingly adopted the bias and I could not appreciate Jacaranda trees any more. I will strive to appreciate it.
