Buckeye leaves turning brown

We have a well established buckeye-maybe 40 feet tall. It's leaves started turning brown a few weeks ago and it's getting worse. I don't see anything on the leaves that looks like disease and the only other issue I've found through research is a lack of water. We haven't had a really rainy spring, but it's not been a drought either. Ideas?

Sorry, I was on my phone yesterday and didn't know how to include a photo. I did water it for quite a while yesterday, but lack of water still doesn't seem like the answer. A 40 year old tree is the only thing lacking water on the entire block? But who knows-that's why I'm asking here! Thanks for any insight!

Here is a link that might be useful: buckeye

i had a terrible spring of very heavy frost and freezes.. after a spike of 80 for a week in march.. near ann arbor ...

and MANY of my trees have leaf damage ...

did you go thru all that???

any chance at a pic of the tree as a whole ...

I get browning and early drop all the time. My buckeyes are a lot smaller, but if it is late summer, it is often leaf scorch. This early is probably not scorch and COULD be a fungal infection. Are they browning more around the edges? Are there any yellowish areas or brown spots?

My answer is...it's a buckeye. Heck, mine - in full sun in the yard - are often devoid of leaves by July - guess they just carry out photosynthesis in the bark of young branches, 'cause they sure don't carry leaves through much of the year.

Mine have a mind of their own as well. I notice the ones I have growing in the g'house are getting brown on the leaves. The ones outside are OK thus far, but toward end of summer the blotches usually happen. Foliar stuff with them isn't that unusual but it doesn't seem to do them any harm.

Thanks for the input. There doesn't appear to be a fungus so I'll just let it do its thing. We did go through a similar weather pattern, ken_adrian. (btw, are you in Adrian? I went to U of M). It sounds like buckeyes are temperamental (insert Michigan/Ohio State joke here) and I guess I'm lucky to just now have issues. Honestly, I wouldn't have even noticed except the darn thing is making a mess of my pool and deck!
