Magnolia tree seems to be dying

Hi all,

Our magnolia seems to be thinning. The leaves are drying up and falling off. We are not gardeners at all but don't think that this should be happening now.

The area is a little wet (we've had a lot of rain and it's a wet yard) but that's the only thing different.

Any thoughts?

on this poor lit pic.. i see nothing wrong...

mine looks a lot worse from winter damage ... did you have a bad winter in MD????

Yes! We had a brutal winter - could that be it? I couldn't get a better pic with the sun.

Winter damaged leaves could just now be dropping.

It may just be coming back from a bad winter. I think it will be fine

There is nothing wrong with your tree! It has nothing to do with the Winter from hell. M. grandiflora ALL normally shed older leaves now, regardless of the previous Winter. It would be doing this after a mild Winter. All mine are doing this now. And, your pic shows new Spring growth. Makes for a Spring clean up chore but looked at another way, you won't have any leaves to pick up in the Autumn.

I have seen a couple in other yards that look like that. Mine dropped it's winter leaves, which looked like that, and are pushing out new. In other words, what others have said.
