| We planted a young autumn blaze maple last September about 3.5 feet away from our vinyl fence (and our neighbor's property line) and now I'm worried that it's too close. How far away should it be? The tree is about 6.5 feet at this point.
If we need to move it, what is the best time of year? |

| Yeah, even I think that's probably a little close for such a rapidly growing and ultimately large tree. Move trees when they are "dormant", ie. no leaves present. +oM |

| What, particularly, are you worried about...a tall fence shading the tree, the tree growing into and damaging the fence, the tree "invading" your neighbors property and becoming a nuisance, something else, or all the above? |

| i say.. based on the link.. 40 to 60 feet from the fence.. to not infringe on the neighbors property rights ... you have 5 acres.. dont you..??? move it in dormancy ... just as the leaves turn color.. the tree is dormant at that point.. or just after they fall off.. my guess.. late sept thru mid october .. ken |

| Yes, of course the canopy and roots will end up off your property. However, before you move the tree, and if it's not located close to structures you may want to ask the people on the adjoining property if they would mind having a shade tree there. Don't just assume they don't. |
