| I'm looking for a Japanese maple to plant in front of my aunt's porch. She has a baby blue old little colonial house and there is a definite need for a small tree next to their porch railings for a tree to hide a bit of the front. I thought a Japanese maple would be perfect but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the selections out there.
We need one that get's about 6-8 tall but width I would put at 3ish to 4 max. It would have it's own little corner and would be allowed to spill out a bit. I'm not very fond of the Cousin It Orangeola weepy types with very dense foliage, I find them a bit trite and overused. I prefer the palmate leaf types. Anything that stays that small but also airy, I guess more vase shaped? Color we're looking for a good red that will echo the rich ruby-red door they have to their house. If I can't find a good one I'd probably do a ninebark, but I thought the Japanese maple would be closer to the red of the door if I found a good variety.

| What kind of light will it see? You'll need some to keep a good red. |

| That side is full sun. 6ish hours of sun. |

| Hard to come up with a non-weeping form that will stay narrow enough for you :-) I'd suggest 'Red Pygmy' or 'Beni Otake'. You could also try something like 'Fireglow', 'Oregon Sunset or 'Sara D' but all will eventually grow taller and wider than you wish and I'd not recommend pruning to maintain a set size. |

| Yeah the weeping tree 'Ryusen' would be PERFECT if it came in red. I'm liking 'Red Pygmy' here. That might work. Thanks a lot! |

| My Shaina's are staying relatively vertical. They are broomy so not exactly "airy" without pruning but stay small, are vase shaped, and keep the reddest red of all my reds as far as year round color goes.
