can white elm be grafted on red elm?

Does anyone know if red elm will accept white elm scions? I have been given scions off a lovely old elm that blew down and have only smaller white/american elms on the home place. There is, however, a much larger red elm. I have a few more scions in the fridge and just wondered if I should try them on the red elm.

if you convert to the latin names.. your search engine will have an easier time finding pertinent info ...

refer to the Dirr propagation manual if you can ...

Well, looks like U rubra can be multiplied on U americana stocks, so perhaps the reverse will apply. I'll try it anyway and report back. The old tree blew down in January, but the scions still look pretty good.
