You can have a forest of them if you want. They will actually start making lots of shoots pretty far from the original tree. Just remember, they are clones of the parent tree. A good yielding tree with good tasting fruit is a treasure. A male tree is a nuisance.

These 2 trees weren't marked as male or female. I was afraid I had only female or males, but the fact that both of them had fruit last Fall means.........they're both female? I don't know of any other Persimmons around here, so I'm not sure how they got fertilized. Or could these be the kind that are both sexes?

Some persimmons can be monoecious (both male & female flowers occurring separately on the same tree), and there are some around here that are like that.

I think persimmon looks quite nice as a grove - Definitely valued by wildlife. A decent-sized persimmon grove keeps possums, raccoons, deer, and even coyotes busy for months in the fall to early winter.

If you're going for a somewhat spontaneous, informal landscape, go for it!

I just didn't know if letting suckers grow so closely to the main tree, if it would decrease the amount of fruit on both of them.

I don't think so - If anything, suckers increase the surface area for photosynthesis?? Somebody could correct me. In most suckering persimmon clumps I've seen, nearly every tree is hanging with fruit in Late October.

For interest's sake, go and smell the flowers on the American persimmon - Surprisingly fragrant!
